Often people consider a coincidence as something destined to happen.Why?

do we sub-consciously i.e. knowingly make them happen....
Yet, there are times when we take note of the coincidence much later. These could be the best thing that may have happened to us in a lifetime......... or the most unlucky incident of our life....

I think it occurs by chance because last week while i was sleeping i had a dream like i am eating a roasted bread after a long time.When i woke up my mom served me the roasted bread which i dreamed.

Have thought hard about the whole issue of coincidences, but can't recall too many instances of coincidences in my life. Yes, fortunate things have happened unexpectedly, much to my delight or chagrin, but I can't classify them as coincidences.
The example given by don't forget: would it not be like a dream which came true? Actually you have a dream which came true in a short time; so something like prescience or being able to presage a future occurrence.
Nancy, can you give some examples of coincidences that occurred in your life?
What can be a good example of a coincidence? The same thing happening to two different people at the same time, or to one person at different times?
I brought up this topic for discussion because I sometimes believe that the Supreme power, the God has his own ways to guide us, for us it could be 'prescience' or our 'deepest hidden desires'.
Talking about coincidence, whenever I meet strangers or I talk to unknown people casually, I often wonder why did it happen: is it pure coincidence or ????

Is God a disjoint entity from us, or is HE not just one but ALL of us together, along with all life, and further perhaps, all creation? Is he a being sitting, watching, putting his/her hand out to set something going seriously wrong from the ordained path or deviating from the grand design? I am not sure if there is so much micro management on his side: unless it is through us, all sentient beings that he carries out his micromanagement!! What say you?
THE OTHER thing: Do you think it is our ego that makes us think that we have the all important place in this universe, so that everything that happens to us has a hidden or overt significance? That everything happens for a purpose, esp one that can be outlined, named, described and gloated over? I don't know. What if we were insignificant creatures like ants in an anthill, and things just happened to us for no rhyme or reason?
To attempt to answer your question: there is enough evidence that we create the world around us through our own desires. We may not immediately be able to associate each event (meetings included...) in our lives with a specific, voiced desire, simply because we might have too many, too often, and even these change every now and then. So it is one messy pot of desires that we carry with us. Have you read the book: The Celestine Prophesy? This is precisely what the book postulates: that each meeting, each event is singularly significant and brings us a message or a learning that we have ourselves programmed!!
But you cleverly managed to skip my question: what have been some of the coincidences in your experience? I somehow understand that these are different from the merely 'unexpected' things that happen, things that we haven't foreseen, whether heralding happiness or sadness. Can you really think of classifying meeting someone, or talking to a stranger as a coincidence? Unless there is a loop before that, of course! How about this example:supposing I have been telling all my friends that I want to learn salsa dancing and have been frantically looking for a salsa teacher for sometime now, somewhat unsuccessfully, say. Now, if I meet someone at a friend's place, or in a bus, or on a train journey, who happens to be a willing salsa dancer/teacher, AND who lives close to me...THAT would be a coincidence to me! What are the odds?

about this Salsa teacher incident, your theory on desires culminating into such unexpected situations actually holds true.
Sigh!
We don't KNOW what is true regarding culmination of desires or coincidences! People say that when you are in touch with yourself, more and more coincidences happen. Or at least you notice them more! You are thirsty, and suddenly out of the blue, someone comes up to you and offers to you a glass of water, without even asking for it! Since, at one level, there is no other way of explaining it, we say that it is a coincidence or that our desires have come true or...
How about this one: what if there were a gifted person who just read our thoughts or one who could hear other peoples wishes and just do the needful?!! Wish I knew! Don't even know how to begin to try to find out! :-)
Am not complaining, but you seem to have fallen off the face of the earth: meaning that you are so awfully busy, that the search for the real I has been put on the back burner, on hold!! Come back soon! God bless...

we wish this phenomena to be true, a person to exist who grants all our wishes....
Ah Nancy, now we are treading on dangerous ground! Do we even want ALL of our wishes to come true?
Firstly, how do we know that whatever we wish for is good for us? Good for all concerned? Sometimes we have crazy thoughts, and we would never want those wishes to come true.
Secondly, wishes are often temporary. By the time they are fulfilled, we don't want them any more. Isn't it good that all are not fulfilled/granted, and even those that are take some time to materialize?
Thirdly, how does the 'granting authority' know and differentiate our wishes from our fears/apprehensions? You just have to think: Oh my God, I think I am going to be late for the meeting! And, bingo, you ARE! Wish/misgiving fulfilled!
We have to be extremely careful, responsible to know what exactly to wish for! For we know not what is good for us: in the short, medium or in the long run! We THINK we do, but do we really?!
yes yes at times we have crazy thoughts and there are times when these scary thoughts turn into reality. Such horrifying incidents scare us and so we tend to drive those wishes miles away from our mind.
Also, life is all about wishing and expecting things, making goals to achieve them and as you said wishes which take time to be granted, actually hold some learning experiences for us.
And, the last point,I never ever underestimate the Almighty. He knows when to help me out and how to make me strong when my fears come true....
Aha! So you are a true believer, are you?! The Almighty 'knows'!
I wonder why we always think of the Almighty always as a HE! Are we talking about a superman here? A supreme being with male characteristics? Why can't God be a SHE?
Have you heard this song: What if God were one of us/ A stranger on the bus... Don't remember who has sung it, but it always touches me deep inside...
So the question again: What if? What if God were not a separate entity, but just ALL of us together! And the whole idea of God helping us is actually through one of his creations, US!! Sometimes when you pray and get strength, perhaps it is God working through you, for yourself! The Real You working for the Unreal You!! For, how can the Real You be afraid, and lose hope? This time not just a penny, but a whole quid for your thoughts! :-)
I won't take God as the collective "Real Us" I consider the Almighty to be much purer than even the Real I
At least that is one step closer to knowing the Real I!! So the Real I is one step (or more) less pure than the Almighty! Hmm..interesting!

I have had my share of coincidences.. and when they came.. they appeared in numbers.. huge chunks.. one after another..
I would just hover over a name on Gtalk.. and voila.. next moment I have this dude/dudess messaging/calling me.. it happened not one or two times.. it repeated over and over again.. untill I started observing it consciously.. and use it to my OWN ADVANTAGE!
God - He or She.. it simply doesn't matter :-) :-( For me God is He PLUS She or She PLUS She ( hope someone doesn't raise questions over the order or priority in addition :D) For me Almighty is inside me..
And yeah.. when those coincidences were 'NOTED' i felt ecstatic, happy, blissful and satisfied .. I walked around, had some fresh air and thought a lot..
Order is all pervasive.. micro to macro level.. its throughout.. only limit is your 'thought'...
World we see outside is a mere reflection of our inner self...
